I love traditional fly rods, but theyβre bulky, long and a pain to setup and travel with. This is an awesome little rod, itβs seen some big fish and been some crazy places with me, over the year and a half Iβve owned it. Iβll almost always end up fishing it more than my Clearwater. Same fun, less hassle. 10/10 π£

I absolutely love my new rod. it will take some getting used to, but it has already caught fish and will come along on many many adventures this year.

I ordered this for my boyfriend for a birthday gift, we had an issue with the first package and REYR quickly took care of it, I highly recommend ordering from this company. My boyfriend loves the FIRST CAST Light 4wt / 7ft β Travel Fly Rod. He got to use it for his bday trip with his dad

Absolutely incredible, I took a trip from Philadelphia to the PNW. Fit in my bag for carry on and for a 7 mile hike to an alpine lake. I donβt have a single complaint Iβll be recommending this rod set up to everyone I know!

I've only used it once but I really enjoyed the experience and even caught a few little guys on a local creek. I need to scan the QR code and actually read the instructions because when I was putting it away I got the leader tucked up inside the rod which really wrinkled it. I know there is a proper way to put it away but I ran out of patience. I look forward to using it again soon on a motorcycle camping adventure in Montana coming up at the end of the month.

I had this rod for 4 years now I have used it on every trip and Iβve took it on the plane on car drives everywhere and Iβve never had a single issue on this rod Iβve taken it to Colorado. Dallas, Greer, Arizona this route has been with me everywhere and Iβve had zero issues works. Great travels. Amazing never snapped the rod once.

Took a moment to understand setup and tear down but so far I love it! Canβt wait to try it out. Be sure not to real the main line into the rod!

At first I was a little bit skeptical about how the mechanism would hold up and how it would fight fish but the mechanism is very strong and reliable and it fights fish just great . The one thing is it feels a slight bit soft for a 4 weight but I have been super satisfied with it

I had a wonderful experience with your customer service team after I had bought the wrong rod and not been able to use it for more than allowed return. I requested to return my rod and get a new one and a lighter weight for the smaller creeks and streams i use. So far Iβve already caught a few fish. I am back on the water and this company rocks.

Its cool it packs down so small and i get its never gonna feel like a traditiinal western style, i accept that. I dont care for the internal line but overall its a fun rod to have when you need something packable.

What a sweet little combo! This rod and reel combo is perfect for keeping in the truck for a spur of the moment cast. It is lightweight and packs up super small. It casts well and feels close enough to a traditional rod that I donβt feel like Iβm compromising on a tiny rod. You wonβt regret purchasing a Reyr Gear combo.

As soon as it arrived, I took off to the mountain for some creek fishing. Itβs super light, quick and easy to set up, and does well in the thick brush. I am impressed with the action/feel of the rod and canβt wait to use it more! Thank you for a great product!

Great little rod, very well made and nice quality. Extremely quick to deploy - I have been keeping it in my work truck and when I'm out in the field and see a stream I just grab it and within 30-45 seconds I'm fishing. The rod is a little limber/slower action than I was expecting but is great for small water and tight spots which is what I got it for.

This rod is perfect for packing in my motorcycle trips. Packs down small and fishes really nice. Great for camping and fishing mountain streams.

While the reel was set up for right hand retrieve, the drag was set up for left hand retrieve, so it was nearly impossible to strip line to cast without getting a tangle. I had to return it.

Havent tried it on the water yet but have it prepped and ready to go. Feels durable, compact, and will get the job done. Excited to launch it!

So it took a bit of getting used to, my old kit was my dads dads, a J Enright Cast Connell with a Silex reel. I havent flicked a fly since I was about twelve so this is a pretty strong learning curve. Stripping back the line so close to the reel is a little different, but easy enough. I wanted something short for little cricks and small ponds, this totally hit the bill. I have the little guy, 7 footer, I cant cast much more that 30-40 feet which is just peachy as I wanted something clean and easy, which it is. Only thing I'm going to do is spool on a base and switch to 9' foot leaders, when I'm going for little brookies and such I often run into some big ass salmon. Also I think I need to pre stress the line as it has a pretty bad memory. But all in all I'm really happy with it, in fact I am prolly going to pick up one of the 9' rigs.

First impressions are just ok. My review is not necessarily all about its capabilities or lack there of, but also my needs based on how this is marketed. I wanted the niche filled between fly and tenkara. However it doesn't do either of those. Instead it feels like a diffeent catagory all together. The 7ft rod can be cast effectively up to about 30ft but any breeze and the day is done. With my tenkara I can cast in 6mph no problem. But the line can come out smooth if done right. But with it only being 5 ft further than I can cast a 10 ft tenkara. And 20 to 25ft less then I can cast my fly rod. It doesnt make much sense. And it cant do anything shorter or further welll enough not to bring the other rods because how the line is weighted and the length and stiffness of the rod. The bend is also very weird its more in the middle of the rod and kinda harse as opposed to a nice arc. The compact and easy setup was the real selling point and it has that. Easy to deploy but kinda cumbersome to put away in real world conditions. Except that whoever designed the reel did not think about the sharp edges that the line and tipped wrap around. So it always has kinks, and the neoprene case is great but it would have made more sense to me to either have added two more loops for carrying flat on a bag or your belt loop. Where they are placed doesn't make much sense. Its hard to explain these issues in detail without actually experiencing them. With all that said since its still under warranty I'll take it out again under diffrent conditions and see if I can find a place for it in my arsenal. Love the concept so keep working on it!

So convenient to throw in the truck and pull out in a flash.

The rod and reel performed better than I expected. On the small east coast streams I typically fish, this 7' light combo is a great companion. I was able to cast a dry fly 30' with ease. Hooked up on two wild rainbows on my brief first outing.

Great little travel fly Rod! I just leave it in my trunk or day hiking pack all the time for trout in winter time and bass/bluegill fishing in the summer.

Quick break-down and easy reset between fishing holes makes this rod the go-to for freelance fishing on small streams. I would definitely recommend this rod to friends and family. -DG

This Rod Changed How I Go Into The Backcountry - This rod far exceeded my expectations in every way! Putting it together and disassembling it takes almost no time at all, so I get hit all of those sweet holes that I would normally hike right past. I've taken it on day hikes, overnight backpacking treks and multi-day whitewater paddle trips, and it crushes everything I throw at it. It actually casts better than any of my other traditional rods, so I can't wait to get the full size Travel Rod!

Wow, this rod is amazing - I think the last time I caught a fish I was 14 years old. Well that was 20 something years ago and getting rolling with this rod was like riding a bike--it all came back to me, smooth and fun, easy to scramble through a river and bag fish big and small. I even caught dinner with my 2.5 year old daughter after just a couple minutes casting. SO FUN. Buy this rod.

Pretty cool and fun - I have been using this 4wt rod and it has been a blast. It's my first fly fishing pole away from tenkara fly fishing and all I can say is it does what it's suppose to do. Super fun and excited to be fishing more. Also, if you are using this around dirt, make sure the line doesn't drag on the dirt otherwise it will go into the rod and you have to clean out. Easy way to do that is letting water go through the top and drain to the bottom end. Good as new and ready for a good time. Thank you Reyr Gear.

Perfect Solution - With my son and I being highly active in the backpacking country. Was looking for a setup that is light weight and easily towable. This setup is the best of both worlds. Small but strong enough to catch whatβs been hiding in the creeks in the mountains. First time out, 4 rainbows and 1 Brooke trout. I highly recommend this to everyone.

Perfect for Fishing with Kids - I have been fishing this rod for about a year now, and it has become my favorite rod. I fish with the "help" of a couple of toddlers, and this rod is what makes that possible. My kids have destroyed tenkara and bait casting rods but so far they have been unable to break the reyr rod, and not for lack of trying. No guides to bend or get tangled on, and no hair-thin carbon tip to snap. You can pre-rig this rod with a fly at the house, and then when you get to the water you are fishing in 30 seconds. Very compact to carry when in the bag, slip it in your belt and it wont't fall out. The only drawback of this rod is that the line will start to stick to the inside if you get too much water in there. Can still put out line, just takes a bit more effort. Overall this rod is unbeatable for fly fishing with kids. You won't be sad you bought it, but the fish might be.

gets me fishing more - I am a hiker and fly fisher but, my other rod comes apart in many pieces and takes some time to set up, which makes it a pain to hike with. So I either skip good fishing spots or have to hike with a fully set up rod. This rod helps me just hike in bliss and fish when I find a great spot, very happy
